CompactPCI Systems

Chandler/May, Inc. has designed built, and delivered hundreds of CompactPCI systems, primarily for telecom and data communication applications. Miltary/Aersopace primes still predominantly use COTS systems based around Ruggedized VMEbus Systems.

CompactPCI is a very high performance industrial bus based on the standard PCI electrical specification in rugged 3U or 6U Eurocard (as popularized by VMEbus) packaging.

CompactPCI is electrically a superset of desktop PCI with a different physical form factor. Unlike its desktop cousin, the CompactPCI board uses a high quality 2 mm metric pin and socket connector that meets IEC and Bellcore standards. CompactPCI boards are inserted from the front of the chassis, and I/O can break out either to the front or through the rear.

Chandler/May’s Computer Systems Division designed and built the Fax Server for Glenayre. Glenayre is a global market leader of open, standards-based services and next generation messaging solutions for wireless, wireline and cable service providers.

The Fax Server is a back-office system that allows a wireless customer to receive faxes via voice wirelessly through his cellular handset.

CompactPCI Chassis
The cPCI Fax Server System consists of a cPCI chassis, cPCI single board computer, transition module, floppy drive, hard drive, two SCSI Ultra3 drives, a hot-swap backplane and a RAID controller.

The system allows for keyboard, mouse, VGA, Ethernet connections, and four (4) serial communications ports, via a rear mounted transition module.
